BABBLE_Fall PJ EDIT

Fall Pajama Edit

Do you feel it? That crisp evening air, the smell of cinnamon and apples wafting around you, the gourds beginning to stand proud at every grocery store entrance?  That’s right ladies, fall is creeping up on us all and I am going to bet it’s been a while since you updated your pajama drawer to change with the seasons.

You break out the fall and winter coats every year, why can’t we do the same for our pajamas?

I will be the first to say…this is extremely hypocritical of me.  I wear the same pajamas, all year round with no consideration of the changing of the weather.  I sleep next to a human furnace and I usually don’t need an extra layer of clothing.  However, I remember my single days, and I definitely crawled into my bed wearing sweats, sweatshirt and thick socks on some of those winter nights.

But we’re adults now, and gosh darn it I want to sleep in fashion that makes me feel just as fabulous as I am.  And you should too!  Because I definitely am not wearing that same pair of old sweatpants that I bought in college to bed…I would never!

On that note, it’s fall, let’s sleep in style.  We deserve great jammies too, not just the kiddos.  I mean it, step away from the umpteenth pair of kid pajamas!  And in case you haven’t been looking, there are some seriously great options out there that you don’t need to go hunting for.  I have the fall pajama edit for you, organized by how you actually sleep.  Because not everyone gets cold in October.

For the Hot Sleepers

You all need to look for fabrics that work with your body’s natural cooling process.  Meaning textiles that draw moisture away from the skin and/or allow for proper airflow rather than trapping heat against your skin.  An extra note is silhouette.  Wear garments that won’t cling and work to retain your body heat.

In terms of fabrication, bamboo viscose draws moisture away from the skin.
Tencel Lyocell is highly recommended by derms and sleep specialists due to its smooth surface that glides over skin instead of creating friction.
Cotton percale and linen wick moisture and breathe beautifully.  And that rumpled linen will get better with each wash, aging like fine wine.

Avoid: Flannel, french terry, fleece, polyester of any kind and modal heavy blends

For the Cold Sleepers

Cotton is your go-to here as well, but with different finishes and knit structure than your traditional crisp cotton.

Pure cotton flannel is going to be your best friend, but please notice that I did not say polyester micro fleece.  Big difference.  The cotton flannel is brushed, so all those glorious air pockets in a traditional woven cotton (percale for example) are closed up with the nap the brushing process created to keep your body heat close to your skin which keeps you, cozy.
Cotton french terry is another great option for you chilly sleepers.  The cozy looped yarns are dense and trap the body heat same as flannel which should keep you comfortable all night long.

Avoid: Linen, cotton gauze, silk, bamboo viscose.  These are all cooling fabrics that will leave you cold.

For the Sleepers with Sensitive Skin

Based on my research, I see dermatologists and textile experts recommending cotton and silk because these fibers allow airflow to reduce the possibility of overheating and causing irritation.

Silk is definitely my top recommendation for those of you with super sensitive skin.  Smooth surface, no friction on the skin and naturally hypoallergenic.  It is the most expensive set option on this list but genuinely therapeutic for sensitive skin.
Cotton, goodness how I adore you, you jack of all trades.  Again, cotton percale is going to be a great option for you.  Crisp, smooth and won’t retain your body heat excessively to create irritation.
Again, Tencel Lyocell is highly recommended by derms and sleep specialists due to its smooth surface that glides over skin instead of creating friction.

Avoid: Synthetic fibers including polyester, nylon, rayon without certifications, or wrinkle resistant finished. Often that dang finish can be more irritating than the fiber itself.
