BABBLE Tested: The Company Store Cotton Percale Sheets

Hey there,

Let’s take a moment for a foundational piece on your bed.
Sheets.

I don’t know if I find anything more satisfying than freshly laundered, pulled taut, crisp, clean, lightly lavender scented cotton sheets.  Seriously.  Sliding into an immaculately made bed is such a simple yet achievable pleasure.  But you have to have some dependable sheets to have that happen.

My latest cotton sheets came from The Company Store and I’m really happy with this purchase.

The specs:

  • $164 for a Queen sheet set – fitted, flat and 2 pillowcases
  • 100% Combed Cotton Percale
  • 300-thread count
  • Standard sheets accommodate mattresses up to 16 in.
    • BABBLE note: I do not have a mattress topper, but my mattress measures 14.5” tall.  I will say, there is definitely some excess in the fitted sheet that drives me a little nutty when making the bed or how it feels a little loose in the morning.  If you have a 15.5-16.5” tall mattress I think you’ll achieve a better fit
  • Available in 18 colorways
  • Personalization options available for an additional $18

First impressions:

When first opening these sheets, I was honestly a tad concerned.

They felt thin, which made me worried that I spent nearly $200 (I purchased the King set) on sheets that were low quality.  They also were a little too crisp, which in combination with the flimsiness made me question their longevity and comfort.

The first couple washes did not put these worries to rest.  However after about the 6th wash, I understood the hype.  Crisp and smooth, but they softened.  Not to the point where the ‘combed’ finish felt like a soft flannel, but just enough that it’s comfortable.

- 10 Wash Test -

Better than the day I purchased
No noticeable wear, only softer with those initial washes
No discoloration
No pilling

HOW I WASH SHEETS: Warm cycle with free + clear detergent. Tumble dry low. Instead of dryer sheets, use wool dryer balls with 5-10 drops of essential oils. My favorite combination – lavender and lemon.

- 8 Month Update -

Still holding up beautifully.  I only purchased one set and I haven’t been switching them out much with any of my previous sets because this is my preferred option to sleep on.  They don’t show any wear and that harsh crisp has softened into a lovely hand feel.

A few things to note:

FLAT SHEET WIDTH – feels a tad short.  I make my bed with hospital corners, always, and these barely fold under the mattress.  Which is surprising considering there is excess in the fitted sheet.
IF YOU WANT CRISP AND FLAT RIGHT OUT OF THE DRYER – these are not your sheets.  Personally, I don’t press my sheets, I iron enough garments in a household of five, I am not adding sheets to my to-do list.  But I also am not bothered with a little rumple.  That’s life and it really doesn’t irk me.  However if creases and wrinkles drive you nutty, happy ironing and know you’ll be doing so with these sheets.

The Verdict:

Why it lost a couple points:
– On my shorter mattress I don’t love wrenching it under the mattress to get a tight fit on the mattress.  Nor do I love fighting to get those hospital corners under the mattress.
– There’s no detail that makes these special.  The edging on the flat sheet is pretty standard, there’s no piping at the top, no decorative embroidery stitch that heightens these to feel hyper-luxe. But good lord are they lovely and dependable.  Just like your favorite white tee.

If you love crisp cotton linens and are looking for an affordable, high quality set, these are definitely a BABBLE approved pick.

MAKE THEM LAST

Don’t forget that sheets laundry day is once a week folks, here are my must haves.
