MANY of the designers I admire have admitted that their own home falls prey to the old adage, ‘the cobblers children have no shoes.’

Now, if you’re a parent, you know that your kids have ALL the shoes and you have none. All this to say, designers have a dang hard time taking time to make their own home beautiful, and I am certain that just like the rest of us, their bedrooms are one of the last spaces to receive love. Which is why BABBLE was born. Because, as you can see here, I definitely have let the bedroom be a last stitch effort:

{cue the wah wahhhhhh}

This was mine and my hubby’s primary bedroom in our previous home. While there are elements I love, I’ve never taken the time to really make it ours. Living spaces, kitchen, nurseries have always taken priority when it comes to decorating and our room shows it.

C’mon Carli. You start your day here, you end your day here, sometimes you spend most your day here (laundry, folding…naps if I’m lucky…) and yet you don’t feel optimal in this space. So now I’m on a mission to actually create a space I can call my own, be functional and ultimately make me feel like I’m starting each day with the best vibes.

Now let’s catapult into the now and take a gander at this stunner we recently moved into:

Did you notice the swatches on the ceiling? The unfinished paint job around the builder grade light fixture? Mish-mosh of collected pillows…How about the lucite chairs as side tables and the elephant in the room of a heavy metal canopy in a slightly-under 8 foot ceiling? Yes, because this is life folks and exactly what BABBLE preaches. Do not feel bad about prioritizing YOUR space. You start and end your day here and I am SO excited to work through my own new home’s transformation and to hopefully inspire you to do the same. We all have to start somewhere, right?

Disclaimer, my new room is long, lean (something I don’t know much about personally) and short (something I’m well acquainted with). That being said though, I actually adore this room and its small footprint. When I lay in bed, it feels incredibly cozy and it sounds soft even though I don’t have a ton in here. But most importantly, I have big plans for this lady.

Alright, enough babbling. It’s visual aid time. Let the planning phase commence —

First, my husband and I have different aesthetics (like every couple). He’s more modern, minimalist and practical where I sway to the natural, artistic and a little funky side of design…which can often leave him asking, “why?” when I present him with design ideas. Rest assured, he’s learned to trust me.

So, where do we go from here?? I first wrote down my keywords (thank you Joanna Gaines) of how I want to describe my entire home:

  • Organic
  • Artistic
  • Refined
  • Restful
  • Clean
  • + a healthy dose of romantic and warm for the primary

Yes, I realize this may sound basic. But it’s a solid jumping off point! From there, we move on to the mood board to ideate on vibes: Warm, refined, textural and organic. Soft, calming, but definitely not boring. A bedroom that feels like it is there to be lived in and not just photographed. A curation of pieces that work with our lives and isn’t fussy while still radiating beauty.

What I love about the plans we have for this room is that it feels like us. It’s not trying to be any one aesthetic, it’s about us loving the experience of the room. Being comfortable in our own room and skin which I think is the most important aspect of a bedroom. We’ll see if the final product stays this serene though, I have a serious love for a splash of the unexpected.

I hope to give you an update on next steps soon. Must prioritize primary bedroom…must prioritize self…but…it’s…so…hard…being pulled into kid’s room redesign…

Until I babble again,
Carli
